This optional training will be taking place Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Office of the Mecklenburg County Attorney in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (APA) and The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center, will be hosting a Behavioral Health Training for elected prosecutors on Wednesday, January 29th from 1-4 pm ET. This 3-hour session will focus on how elected prosecutors can use their positions to convene and participate effectively in collaborations across agencies and with the community to promote better public safety and health outcomes for people with behavioral health needs.

By the end of this convening, attendees will understand how treatment engagement lowers risk and enhances public safety, address strategies to communicate with the community and staff to build or enhance a sustainable program, including the presentation of data points, discuss new approaches for competency related cases, and understand effective partnerships and resources. The training will also help chief prosecutors gain skills to manage directives and communicate trust to line staff for cases involving behavioral health, and better understand funding options for sustainable behavioral health care. Attendees will hear from other elected prosecutors about their successful policies and programs, and have the opportunity to discuss challenges and promising solutions they are experiencing in their jurisdictions.

We hope you make every effort to participate.

Thank you.
