Webinar: Conviction Integrity Case Study - Williams/ Myers Case
Thursday, October 29, 2020, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EDT
Category: Webinars

Please join us on October 29, 2020 at 3pm EDT for the next webinar in our Conviction Integrity Webinar Series. In May of 1976, two women were shot in the middle of the night while asleep in their bedroom. One woman died at the scene, while the other woman managed to survive and later identify the shooters as Clifford Williams and his nephew, Nathan Myers. The only evidence to tie these men to the crime was the testimony of the surviving victim. Both men were convicted and were serving life in prison when Nathan Myers contacted the newly created Conviction Integrity Review (CIR) unit at the State Attorney’s Office in Jacksonville, FL. After a year-long investigation, both men were exonerated in March of 2019, having served 43 years in Florida State prison.

This webinar will take you through the investigation conducted by the CIR—as the Jacksonville office interviewed alibi witnesses, re-evaluated the physical evidence--which contradicted the testimony of the surviving victim, investigated a third-party who confessed to the crime years later, and conducted experiments to support its theory as to what happened. Every investigative step resulted in information favorable to Williams and Myers.

The CIR’s report setting forth its work and conclusions in this case is provided for your review: https://www.sao4th.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/CIR_Investigative_Report_FINAL_3.28.19_R.pdf
