Webinar: Prosecuting a Hate Crime: An Analysis of the Kroger Shooter Case
Tuesday, May 18, 2021, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EDT
Category: Webinars

Join us May 18th for "Prosecuting a Hate Crime: Collaborative Efforts of State and Federal prosecutors," an hourlong webinar presented by Jefferson County Commonwealth's Attorney Tom Wine and Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Milja Zgonjanin, Department of Justice Special Litigation Counsel Christopher J. Perras, and Former US Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky, Russell Coleman. These prosecutors will discuss how they prosecuted the Jeffersontown Kroger racially-motivated shooting in state and federal court. The presenters will walk through the difficulties of the case, lessons learned, and the cooperative effort among the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, the US Attorney’s Office, and the Department of Justice, providing a blueprint for other jurisdictions who may be facing similar cases and not know where to start or what resources exist in the area of hate crime prosecutions. Attendees will be afforded an opportunity at the end of the presentation to ask the presenters questions.

This webinar is open to prosecutors and prosecution-allied professionals such as law enforcement officers, judges, victim witness advocates, and investigators regularly involved in capital and capital-eligible (homicide) cases only. Registrants may be asked to verify their employment prior to being approved to attend the webinar.
